Adrenals & BRT:

How Your Adrenals Work:

What are the adrenal glands?

The adrenal glands are the part of the body responsible for releasing three different classes of hormones. These hormones control many important functions in the body, such as:

- Maintaining metabolic processes, such as managing blood sugar levels    and regulating inflammation.

- Regulating the balance of salt and water, blood pressure.

- Controlling the "fight or flight" response to stress .

- Maintaining pregnancy.

- Initiating and controlling sexual maturation during childhood and puberty.

The adrenal glands are also an important source of sex steroids, such as estrogen and testosterone.

Over time the adrenal glands become inefficient.  "Adrenal cortical [outer portion] deficiency does not become clinically manifest [obvious or clear] until nine-tenths [90 percent] of the cortical [outer portion] tissue have been rendered unresponsive [not working]. The patient may live through a prolonged period of less apparent hormonal deficiency—a period during which secretion is adequate for everyday requirements, inadequate only when special stresses, such as operation, trauma, or infection, lead to crisis." —Frank H. Netter, The CIBA Collection of Medical Illustrations, Volume 4, page 101.

What does this mean?

It means that a hormone deficiency takes years to show up and the body will compensate until 90 percent of the adrenal glands stops working. And your hormones will function for normal activities but will not be adequate for many of the extra stresses of life. You’ll be okay if you are on a remote tropical island away from the stresses of life, but if we insert you into the hectic pace of living, your hormones will be inadequate to cope.

Dr. Beth L. Speckman, D.C. uses the Body Restoration Technique system to find out the cause of the adrenal dysfunction.  After a thorough evaluation, Dr. Beth will use the BRT system to help the adrenals work more efficiently.
